Introverted Intuition (Ni): Halt constantly judges options based on how they will effect the future. He teaches this to Will, encouraging him to consider the consequences of every action. He is uncanny at anticipating how a given situation will turn out, reverse engineering his enemies logic to figure out their next move. He uses his strategic abilities to the kingdoms advantage as an adviser to the king. His ideas are often thought to be too abstract and far fetched to work, but everyone who knows him trusts him and listens to his advise, even if it sounds crazy.
Halt realizes Will's potential early on, orchestrating a scenario to test him before taking him in as an apprentice. His intuitive insights are many, insulting the king just enough to get himself banished so he can search for his captured apprentice, understanding the Temujai's tactics and intentions, knowing just what to say to free Evynlin when she is threatened by the Scandian Oberjarl.
Extroverted Thinking (Te): Halt deals in facts. He is pragmatic and realistic, never embellishing a situation with unrealistic optimism. Halt always speaks his mind, believing that it is kinder to be honest than optimistically untruthful. He rejects unrealistic ideas, but if he can't prove it won't work, he'll consider it based on it's practicality.
Halt's Te tempers Will's Ne just enough to help him realize the real life potential of his ideas, without dismissing them out of hand. This trait makes him a perfect mentor for Will as their styles balance well.
While he is introverted and not especially drawn to leadership, Halt fits easily into the role, commanding others with authority and enough dry humor to let them know that he has their best interests in mind.
Halt cares very strongly for Will, but almost never puts his emotions into words, He is very proud of Will, saying that he far surpasses himself , but has trouble conveying his sentiment except in a nod of approval every once in a while.
Extroverted Sensing (Se): Halt is a formidable fighter, having trained his Se to a deadly level over the years. His fighting style is heavily Ni (anticipating attacks and gaining advantages before the fight begins) but he is also able to improvise quickly in battle.
As an INTJ, Halt is the whole package, including random Fi/Se such as the above example of throwing people into a moat. On rare occasions his Se flares up, giving him an, "I'll do what I want and to heck with the consequences" attitude.
You've gotta love Halt! :) I think this profile sums him up very well.
