Introduction to the "Intuitive" Functions

In my last post I gave an introduction to cognitive functions. Now I'm going step by step and defining and exploring each function in more depth.

Lets start with the intuitive functions. It's as good a place as any and my personal dominant is Ni so I I might actually be able to make some sense.

What is "Intuition?"
Intuition is perception in the form of ideas concepts and impressions. Rather than experiencing something in a strictly sensory manner intuition experiences things based on the abstract ideas behind them.

Introverted Intuitive: How it works
The introverted perceiving functions, Ni and Si, get information through the extroverted perceiving function, Ne or Se. They store that information in the relevant form, in this case intuitively. The introverted intuitive function builds a system of impressions and ideas. When a person uses Ni they are checking the experience at hand with the model they have built.
High Ni users often "just know" what will happen because their present experience triggers recall of a pattern. They can seem "mystical" and "psychic" because they can't trace the pattern back to something tangible, even though it came from somewhere. Watch a movie with an Ni user and they will often predict all the possible outcomes of the plot without really thinking about it. They're accessing their "database" of ideas and patterns and comparing the movie they're watching with other movies. To an Ni user, it's all been done before, therefore you can predict when it will happen again.
All this focus on prediction leads into Ni's other main trait, long term planning. High Ni users love imagining the future. They see something that could happen in the future and then work backwards, imagining the scenarios that will result in that outcome. Ni users in stories are the ones who do things that have no significance at the time, but eventually it becomes clear that they had a specific future result in mind.
Ni is focused. It takes a single idea and examines the different facets of that idea. Since intuition comes in an abstract form, Ni enjoys symbolism and stories, breaking them down into individual parts and then reassembling them.

Extroverted Intuitive: How it works
Since it is extroverted, Ne doesn't store information. It deals with information that is right in front of it. Like Ni Ne can know things without obvious evidence but since Ne deals with immediate information the effect is less striking. Ne will jump from idea to idea connecting information that is seemingly unrelated. While Ni is focused Ne abandons focus almost entirely in favor of rapid brainstorming.
Both intuitive functions have an aspect of "what if" but Ne doesn't always match up it's ideas with reality, in fact, being realistic is often looked down upon by high Ne users because "reality is no fun"
(can you tell that I'm Ni not Ne yet)
Introverted and extroverted function's can be thought as having different "speeds." Ni is on the slow path, picking through information and building patterns. Ne is on the fast path, jumping from idea to idea without becoming attached to any one of them. Ne users are versatile. Their lack of attachment to any one idea lets them move on when the original idea won't work.
Ne users can often be stereotypes as ditzy and unfocused but their creativity is definitely desirable.
