Ranger's Apprentice: Horace Altman [ISFP]

Introverted Feeling (Fi): Horace's code of honor means everything to him. The only time he ever breaks it is when he is forced to put loyalty to his friends first. He is constantly discomforted by Halt's tendency to stray from the law as written. He has a strong sense of justice and is appalled at the callous actions of others. Horace doesn't hold back, throwing himself into anything that he believes in with resolve and conviction.
As a kid, before going to battle-school, Horace's Fi is a bit brooding, bringing him into conflict with Will. After he joins battle-school and deals with the bullies he finds there, he adopts the schools code of honor as his own. As a battle school student Horace keeps his issues with bullies to himself, going to ridiculous lengths to not "complain." When Will is captured, Horace satisfies his conscience first by clearing his plans with Sir Rodney, then disregards what other people might think of him and goes with Halt to get Will back.

Extroverted Sensing (Se): Horace is proficient warrior and a man of action. He is a natural swordsman, having an instinctive knowledge of the art. He is constantly aware of his environment, pulling of stunts that he doesn't even know are incredible because they come so naturally to him.
Horace's impulsive nature is tempered by wisdom as he gets older, but early on he is hard pressed not to act on his Fi values in inappropriate situations. When Morgorath tries to challenge Halt to a duel on the plains of Uthal, Horace rashly intercepts the challenge. He acts on the spur of the moment, landing himself in an extremely dangerous situation. However, his Se also saves his life turning the rash decision into a major victory when he manages to defeat Morgorath despite his opponent's superior strength and experience.

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Horace's Ni is an integral part of his combat ability. His Se and Ni pair to give him an instinctive knowledge of his opponent's intentions. He is quick and accurate in his assessment of combatants, unconsciously weighing their skill level.
While he usually leaves planning to others (rangers) Horace has a good grasp of tactics. He often advises Will on the best way to approach a battle. Horace supplies the conventional and often extremely effective tactics while Will adjusts them to work in unorthodox situations.

Extroverted Thinking (Te): Horace never considers himself a thinker, leaving that kind of thing to the often NT rangers. However he is quite solid in the logic department utilizing his Te in a way that makes him a very balanced character. Horace's logical style is to state the obvious, usually the obvious that Will the ENTP has overlooked, which makes them a good team. Horace's doesn't often verbalize his logical conclusions, but when he does, Will is often surprised at his simple profundity.
